Personal Mobility in the 21st Century

So in conclusion, I’d like to recap that personal mobility in the 21st century will include:

  • Advanced power systems

  • New materials for lower mass

  • New ideas in vehicle packaging and design

  • Subsystems for public transit systems

And finally, the idea of private cars may ultimately give way to a different system that focuses on providing inhabitants with the "commodity" of transportation.   Personal mobility is truly a commodity in today's world, yet the backbone of our personal mobility system, the automobile, is designed and marketed as though it were a discretionary consumer item.   By seeing it as the commodity that it is, a system based on very different hardware will naturally emerge.
